The Marah cover for the Houston Chronicle's Preview magazine has always been both a symbolic and iconic image to me about what I was attempting to achieve as a designer for that product.
When I started at the Chronicle in 2001 the designers didn't pick the images & contacting a record label, band or freelance photographer was unheard of. I felt to achieve the emotional response I wanted in my craft I had to search outside of what was given to me.
An unknown photographer in the UK named Amanda Coplans had been shooting the Philadelphia based rock band each time she had the opportunity, she supplied me with this amazing image. After their show in Houston, TX I had the band autograph a litho print of this cover and I sent it to Amanda. Last I heard it hangs above her fireplace.
